Recent Cases
Choosing a law firm for a disability, injury or workers’ compensation claim is easier when you know what the firm actually handles. Pisegna & Zimmerman represents clients in Los Angeles and nearby communities. This page explains the kinds of cases we take on and how to read any results we share.
Social Security Disability
The Social Security Administration runs two programs. Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is based on your work history. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is needs-based and does not require a work record. We handle both, including SSI benefits for children, from the first application through the appeal of a denial.
A denial is common and it is not final. The appeals path has four stages: reconsideration, a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge, Appeals Council review and federal court. Each stage has its own deadline, generally 60 days from the date of the notice you receive, so a good part of our work is disability appeals. Once a claim is approved, we also help clients understand back pay and retroactive benefits. SSDI has a five-month waiting period, so the timing of your disability matters. You can read more on our Social Security Disability page.
Long Term Disability
Long term disability insurance should replace income when an injury or illness keeps you from working, but insurers often delay or deny valid claims. A denial does not have to be the end of the claim. An appeal lets you add new evidence, clear up inconsistencies and respond to the specific reasons for the denial, and appeal windows are strict. We help clients bring claims against disability insurers and challenge denials. Our Los Angeles long term disability page explains how these claims work.
Workers’ Compensation
If you were hurt on the job in California, you are entitled to workers’ compensation coverage, whether or not the injury was your fault. We assist injured workers with new claims, denied claims, and situations where an employer refuses to pay or will not report the injury. This includes injuries on construction sites. Tell your employer about an injury as soon as you can, ideally in writing. California sets a deadline to report a workplace injury, generally 30 days, so do not wait. See our workers’ compensation page for more.
Personal Injury
When someone else’s carelessness causes your injury, we help you pursue compensation. Our personal injury practice includes car accidents, Uber and Lyft accidents, defective products, slip and fall injuries and medical malpractice. Personal injury claims in California generally must be filed within two years of the injury, so it helps to speak with a lawyer early.
Where We Help
We serve clients through location pages for Sherman Oaks, Long Beach, Norwalk, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara, Bakersfield and the Inland Empire. Look for your area under Locations in the menu.
How to Read Case Results
Case summaries added to this page will describe the type of claim, the stage at which it resolved and the outcome, without client names or private details. Every case is different. A result in one case does not guarantee a similar result in another, and nothing on this page is legal advice or a promise of any particular outcome.
